Master Bathroom Remodel

I’ve been running around trying to make decisions concerning our Master bath remodel. It’s been a long time coming and I’ve been living with a concrete floor for longer than I ever thought I would. I won’t get into it now but suffice to say that it involves carpet in the bathroom (who does that?), two floods, a “restoration” company tearing up walls and shower tile, lots of spiders, and it only goes on and on from there!

Anyway, with the limitations of a low ceiling, a Restoration Hardware/Pottery Barn appetite on a Lowe’s budget, and the fact that paying retail for ANYTHING gives me hives, I’ve made some purchases!

I’ve only been able to put it together in my head so far, so I created a collage. This is the look I’m going for.

What do you think about the oval medicine cabinets (I’ll need two)? Rob and I went round and round about this one. I love the white framed, cottagey looking ones. But he loves the inside space of these. I had actually picked them out a couple of years ago and then changed my mind. However, I think I have a solution to their contemporary look. I’ve asked him to install a plank wall behind them. I think it will really give it the vintage farmhouse?, beach house?, cottage?, whitewashed lodge?, look that I love. We’ll see how it all works together. Now we have to get to work. I’ll post pictures as we make progress, so stay tuned!

Glamping Wannabe

Ok, so I’ve been MIA for awhile. But I’m missing all of you terribly. I’m so inspired by fellow bloggers and readers. Your creativity, encouragement, and comments are like a breath of fresh air.

I’ll try to catch you up on the never-ending remodel. We “freshened up” the powder room. I’ll post pictures soon. Now it’s on to the Master bath and then the teenager’s bathroom. Phew! I’m determined to get done soon. But I’m happy with the progress.

In the meantime, we’re getting our act together with the garden, had a garage sale, got back on my anti-fungal diet, and planning some camping. No actually “Glamping”.         Shhh. Don’t tell the two guys I’m going with (son & hub)!

I’ve pinned some pictures on Pinterest, so that I can get some ideas. However, I don’t know if my Academy sports store tent is going to look anything like my inspiration pictures. Where can I get an amazing “Out of Africa” looking tent? Oh, and it has to be at a bargain price! I know, “good luck with that!”

So enough blah, blah, blah. Onto some pictures.

Wake up here, fresh air, bacon cooking, what could be wrong in my world at this point? A male comes in and drops a turtle on my bed for closer examination. Ok, I’m back in reality now.

I know it’s cheating because this bed is in a camper. However, I’m trying to figure out how to re-create it in a tent!

This blog called I need pretty things has the most adorable ideas for glamping. I love the name and I couldn’t agree more. Check it out but leave me a comment first, won’t you? I want to make sure that there isn’t just the sound of deep space out there. “In space no one can hear you scream” or ramble on in a blog post either!

Another Denim Couch Bleaching Success!

Stephanie is a reader that emailed me about my bleached slipcover post. She had found a denim slipcovered couch and chair on Craigslist for $85., for the set! Hello. I’m coming to your town to shop. After looking for new slipcovers with no success, she found my post about bleaching. Here is the before:

She had pulled the slipcover off of the chair and ottoman to see if she liked the white. Now for the amazing after:

Wow. Every time I look at the picture I have to say “wow”. It’s just beautiful and this is before she’s done any accessorizing! Stephanie says that this is her 2 year olds favorite room and it’s the perfect spot for family movie night. I don’t doubt it with those perfectly squishy, shabby chic couches! And of course the amazing view doesn’t hurt either.

Thanks again for sharing Stephanie. You did a fabulous job of stretching that dollar while glamorizing your space.  I’m sure I speak for everyone when I say that I wouldn’t mind a little home tour. hint. hint.

For the Love of Maps

I just love maps and globes. Vintage or new, I love the colors and shapes. They can be used for crafting, as wallpaper, or decoupaged onto furniture. Oh, the possibilities! Cottage Drive By

I was running errands in a town about a half hour from mine. I made a little detour because I knew there were some cute cottages to drool over! It’s hard for a cottage to look good in the winter so I’m always keeping my eye out for new ideas. Cruise through the neighborhood with me, k?

I love the garden structures and grey railing on this one. Pretty yummy, right?  How about some color?  Vine covered walls.

That’s a neat idea. Cute white fence to define the front porch area.

Where was this door when I was shopping for my new front door? The orange really pops against the grey.

It seems they’re doing some work on this house. The black shutters make it look elegant. We’ll have to drive by again when it’s done! This divider, trellis, fence thingy is awesome. I might be tempted to grow peas up it! Hmm. Cottage or castle? It’s definitely different.I really like the cottages that have evergreen bushes and trees around the entry. What a difference it makes in the winter.         Wow. Check out this modern cottage. Don’t you wonder what it looks like on the inside?

Well, let’s have a bit of a tour to whet your appetite. There is a main public lodge and four cottages to choose from for my, er, your stay.
